ENTEC/NSTDA, EGAT and Thai-Chinese Corporates joined hand organized “The Hand-Over Ceremony of 50 Electric Motorcycles to Motorcycle Taxi Riders” in Bangkruai, Nonthaburi, and Bangphlat Bangkok 

          On June 23, 2023, the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) by the National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC) has organized a ceremony event “The Hand-Over Ceremony of 50 Electric Motorcycles to Motorcycle Taxi Riders” in Bangkruai, Nonthaburi, and Bangphlat, Bangkok, by being honored reported by Dr. Sumittra Charojrochkul, the director of ENTEC on behalf of NSTDA director, followed by Congratulatory remarks given from the ceremony chairpersons including, H.E. Georg Schmidt, the German Ambassador, Ms. Gita Sabhawal, UN resident coordinator in Thailand, Dr. Mushtaq Memon, the UNEP regional coordinator for chemicals and pollution action subprogramme, Mr. Prasertsak Cherngchawano, deputy governor – strategy, Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), Mr. Sutee Tongyam, governor of Nonthhaburi administration office, and Mr. Chalermpon Chotinuchit, deputy permanent secretary of Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA).

          Under auspicious support of the International Climate Initiative (IKI) by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protections (BMUV), the project “Integrating Electric 2&3 Wheelers into Existing Urban Transport Modes in Developing and Transitional Countries” was awarded to UN Environment Programme (UNEP) to develop programs in 6 countries from 2 sub-regions, namely Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda, to integrate electric 2&3 wheelers into existing urban transport modes via a comprehensive policy framework, which could be replicated to other countries in the sub-regions.

As a private sector partner with UNEP’s Global Electric Mobility Program, the Dongguan Tailing Electric Vehicle Co., Ltd. (or TAILG) has been donating electric motorcycles to various countries, such as Kenya, Uganda, Philippines and Thailand, in order to raise awareness of electric mobility and to provide crucial data to stakeholders for policy formulation. For Thailand, UNEP is working with the National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC) of National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) on the project, “Supporting Scaling-Up of Electric 2&3 Wheelers in Thailand”, which is currently the second phase project. The major goal is to focus on policy development to push forward transitioning to electric mobility with electric 2&3 wheelers in Thailand
